My name is Muhammad Sajid Khan, 2nd year of PhD student in Institute of Energy and Power Engineering, ZJUT China. I was working as a lecturer in Mirpur University of Science & Technology, AJK Pakistan since May 2014. In 2016, I availed two years fully funded scholarship for MS from Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and joined Eastern Mediterranean University at TRNC. I completed my MS in February 2018, went back to Pakistan, and joined my department.
First time I came to China in June 2018 to participate in International Training Workshop on Technology and Application for New Energy and Renewable Energy from June 12, 2018 to July 1, 2018 at Inner Mongolia Institute for Scientific and Technological Cooperation and Innovation and Development under Ministry of Science and Technology, The People’s Republic of China. It was a wonderful experience to meet the people of different countries. The organizers of the workshop managed tours and visits to different industries and solar plants etc. It was a great pleasure for me that Chinese are concentrating on research and development activities in an innovative ways. After departing to my country, I tried to search opportunities in different universities of China for my PhD. I was lucky that Associated Professor DR. Mi Yan gave me opportunity, sent his acceptance letter, and guide me the procedure to apply on CSC. After availing CSC scholarship and securing my admission to ZJUT, I came in Hangzhou on 10 September 2019 and started my doctoral journey.
My doctoral research concentrates on the integration of solar thermal and MSW incineration for power and hydrogen production. MSW in China has low calorific value as compared to European countries due to the presence of moisture content and it results thermal efficiency of MSW incineration plant less than 30%. Therefore, it is a great concern to increase its efficiency without causing any damage to the MSW steam boiler. Therefore, our focus is to use an external super heater and utilization of solar assisted combined cycle MSW power plant (topping cycle will be Brayton cycle, while bottoming is Rankine cycle). Furthermore, production of green hydrogen from solar and MSW will be an additional feature of our research. My published SCI journal papers are almost 17 and number of papers are still under review.
During my stay at ZJUT, from September 2019 to February 2020, I participated in International Young Scientist Symposium on Waste Management and Disposal Technology-2019
I am thankful to the professor and friends who provided different opportunities and great support to step up my study at ZJUT. We have a wonderful and enthusiastic research group focusing on different dimensions of waste to energy under the supervision of Professor Dr. Mi Yan. Moreover, relation between China and Pakistan are very strengthen and China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is journey towards economic regionalization in the globalized world. It founded peace, development, and win-win model for all of them. China Pakistan Economic Corridor is hope of better region of the future with peace, development and growth of economy.
