Confucius Institute Scholarship Program
For the purpose of cultivating qualified Chinese language teachers and facilitating the promotion of Chinese language and culture, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) launches “Confucius Institute Scholarship” (CIS) to support outstanding students, scholars, and currently employed Chinese language teachers recommended by Confucius Institutes, independently operated Confucius Classrooms as well as some HSK test centers (hereinafter collectively referred to as “recommending institutions”) to study in Chinese universities and colleges (hereinafter referred to as “host institutions”).
I. Eligibility
All applicants shall be:
a) non-Chinese citizens;
b) in good physical and mental condition, with good academic performance and conduct;
c) committed to the teaching and international promotion of the Chinese language;
d) between the ages of 18 and 35 as of September 1st, 2021. Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall not be over 45, while undergraduate student applicants shall not be over 25.

III Scholarship Coverage
The scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation fees, monthly living allowance (except four-week students), and comprehensive insurance for foreign students studying in China. The amount of living allowance is 2500 yuan per month for undergraduate students, one-academic-year students, and one-semester students. For a Master in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, it’s 3000 yuan per month.
Confucius Institute students should register on time according to the admission notice, otherwise, the scholarship will be canceled. Students who register before September 15 (including September 15) can get the whole month's living allowance, and students who register after September 15 can only get half of the living allowance for this month.
IV. Application Procedure
Online registration will be available from March 1, 2021 on the Confucius Institute Scholarship website (cis.chinese.cn). Please log on to find recommendation institutions and host institutions (the Agency Number of ZJNU is 10345), submit application documents online, track the application progress, feedback of review, and admission results. Scholarship winners shall confirm with the host institutions to go through the procedures of studying in China, print out the CIS certificate online, and register at host institutions on the designated date as per the letter of admission.
The application deadlines are
a) May 15th (for programs commencing in September)
b) November 15th (for programs commencing in March 2022)
Hanban will complete the scholarship review and publish the results three months before enrollment of the scholarship winners.
V. “Chinese Bridge” Award Recipient Policies
Chinese Bridge winners who have been awarded the 2021 “Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate” shall log onto the scholarship website and submit documents to relevant host institutions upon presentation of their CIS certificates.

VI. Disclaimer
1. Incomplete or unqualified applications will not be processed.
2. Applicants will be disqualified from application in case of fraudulent application materials or application materials are completed and submitted by someone else.
3. Scholarship winners who cannot register with the host institutions on time should inform the host institution about the reasons in written form within 15 days before the admission date. For those who do not register as requested without reason, the scholarship will be canceled.
4. Scholarship will be canceled for those who do not pass the admission physical examination, drop out, or take schooling suspension during the study.
