Shanghai Ocean University

In the past 108 years’ history of Shanghai Ocean University, it is our unremitting spirit that has opened the door of exploration and hope for higher education of aquaculture and fisheries. It is our school motto "Diligence, Sincerity, Dedication and Practicality" that has helped the university create new histories constantly and keep pace with the world through the integration and communication of multi-cultures from generation to generation.

As the cradle of aquaculture education in China, Shanghai Ocean University has attracted many distinguished scholars and young talents with dreams and dedication to the ocean. In 2017, it has been selected as one of the the “Double First-Class Initiative” project university for its First-Class Discipline of Aquaculture by Ministry of Education of China.

Shanghai Ocean University has now become a specialized university that features oceanography, aquaculture and food science as its core disciplines and simultaneously develops multiple related disciplines, covering agriculture, science, engineering, economics, management, law and humanities.

A series of achievements have been made by talents with a mission of building China into a maritime power, supporting blue granary and conducting education, science and technology in fisheries, aquaculture and food science based on the research mainline of sustainable development and utilization of aquatic biological resources and preservation of the earths environment and ecology.

Recognizing the importance of international exchange and cooperation, the university maintains close partnerships with universities and international organizations from the US, Japan, Russia, Australia, South Korea, as well as regions like Taiwan and Hong Kong. It also has formed a long-term partnership in key international cooperative programs such as the China-US Cooperation Program for Marine Biological Resources, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the Asian Fisheries Society, and the International Center of Living Aquatic Resources Management. Shanghai Ocean University always views global cooperation as essential to become a leading research institution.

College of International Cultural Exchange

Since 1955, Shanghai Ocean University has started its education for international students. In 2002, College of International Cultural Exchange was established to take charge of international students' enrollment, education and daily management. Structured to support student degree studies and training programs across a variety of disciplines, exchange programs include education in fisheries, marine science, food science, economics and management, as well as Chinese Language. With our unremitting efforts, the international exchanges and cooperation have been highly strengthened and the internationalization has been continuously enhanced.
